Curriculum

In our Primary Department (Y0-8) on both campuses we use the Interact Curriculum. This is a New Zealand designed curriculum using the character of God as themes for each term. Learning areas are integrated into this theme. The National Curriculum achievements are covered in the curriculum and are taught from a Christian World View.
Features of the Interact Curriculum

  • Developing a knowledge of God: His nature and character
  • Developing a knowledge of man: His nature and character
  • Developing knowledge of the world.
  • Developing character that is conformed to God's image.
  • Recognising the unity of knowledge and the interrelationship of subjects
  • Working with a cycle of topics so that all age groups are studying the same topics at different levels
  • Catering for individual learning styles
  • Requiring a range of thinking skills
  • Relating to real life with practical application.

The curriculum is a 4 year cycle; we are currently in our 5th year of the cycle so we've just about been once through and are starting again.

This year our Themes are:

Term 1- God is Faithful
Term 2- God is Our Source
Term 3- God is Truthful
Term 4- God is Creative

Staff and students have enjoyed the unity the curriculum has given our programme and are looking forward to continuing through the cycle again to build on what we have learnt before.

The Secondary Department (Y9-Y13) follows the New Zealand Curriculum Framework taught from a Biblical Worldview.

The New Zealand Curriculum Framework is the Ministry of Education's foundation policy statement covering teaching, learning, and assessment for all students in all New Zealand schools. It is the first statement in the history of our country to provide such an overview, and outlines the ways in which the New Zealand Curriculum can balance the needs and interests of individual students with the requirements of society and the economy. What the New Zealand Curriculum Framework does not take into account is that all things were created by Christ and for Him, therefore an indvidual's first need is to know Christ, and then to live by His requirements above all else. This truth is placed first and foremost in the curriculum at our School. The New Zealand Curriculum Framework acknowledges that individual students have unique learning needs. The Framework identifies the knowledge, understanding, skills, and attitudes which all students must develop if they are to play a full part in the world in which they will live and work. The Special Character of our School requires that the curriculum also must include the knowledge of Christ and His Word, not merely as an "add on" or a sprinkle of scriptures in order to "Christianize" a secular curriculum but a genuinely Bible based curriculum that posesses both intellectual and spiritual integrity. All our teachers are Christians and receive regular Professional Development to ensure the curriculum continues to be developed and taught from this perspective.
